Director of Pediatric Radiation Oncology

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Kansas (KU) is seeking a Director of Pediatric Radiation Oncology.  As an NCI designated cancer center, KU seeks to stay at the forefront of cancer treatment and will be bringing proton therapy to its program.  A brand-new building dedicated to proton treatment will allow access to proton therapy for patients throughout the Midwest.

With a cancer service line top ranked by US News and World Report, the department has developed a national reputation and has seen an ongoing increase in the number and clinical expertise of its faculty.  The Department provides Radiation Oncology Clinical Services at 5 locations throughout the Kansas City region and oversees 11 linear accelerators.  The Department continues to base its' philosophies on research and education and is now one of the largest clinical programs in the country.  The Department also features an accredited four-year Radiation Oncology residency training program (ACGME), and a two-year residency Medical Physics training program (CAMPEP).

The incumbent will have the full support of the program and hospital leadership, along with the infrastructure in place, to grow and develop KU’s proton therapy center from the ground up.
With no other competition in the metro area, and referral streams in place, this is a golden opportunity to establish oneself as the area leader in proton therapy care. 

With the addition of the proton therapy service line, KU seeks to establish itself as one of the top 5 cancer centers in the US. 
KU has state-of-the-art clinical facilities at both the main hospital and 5 community locations.
The Department has a stellar working relationship with Children’s Mercy Hospital and has their full support in establishing and growing the proton therapy program.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

A qualified candidate will possess an entrepreneurial mindset, stellar interpersonal skills and a passion for leading others. 
Must have the confidence and desire to build a proton program from the ground up. 
A demonstrable track record of working collaboratively with a diverse medical staff is necessary to be successful in this role.
Licensure in the state of Missouri and Kansas and must be BC/BE in Radiation Oncology. Pediatric fellowship is highly preferred, but not required.
