The Hospitalist Medical Director is accountable for the performance of the hospitalist group, setting the tone for evidence-based, collaborative clinical care, and outcomes driven patient experiences. The Medical Director works with the hospitalist providers and other health system leaders to develop team engagement and ensure smooth, effective transitions of care for patients. The Hospitalist Medical Director collaborates with the program s Regional Administrator in a dyad model.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

Provide inpatient care from admission through discharge for patients admitted to Jefferson Health New Jersey (JHNJ) hospitals. Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of inpatient nursing and support staff as required.

Hold regular documented meetings with providers to discuss systems/patient flow, quality outcomes, scheduling and other operational matters, encouraging team process and engagement from all.

Assist in the professional development and growth of each individual provider including Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). Ensure that APPs receive the appropriate clinical development and ongoing supervision.

Regularly review and annually sign off (as approved and updated) the latest Joint Commission standard policies, procedures, and evidence based clinical protocols for patient care.

Participate actively in the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of new providers, including orientation to multi-disciplinary team process.

Coordinate providers schedules to efficiently meet the needs of patients admission, discharge, and daily care needs. Ensure that providers schedules are designed to optimize our patients cycling through the system

Review, investigate, manage and resolve all complaints / concerns about providers arising from patients, medical staff, or administration through Quantros or successor software. Provide coaching, counseling, retraining, and direction as needed to ensure positive performance development.

Regularly attend and participate in other medical staff committees, as requested by JHNJ leadership, within scope of responsibilities and administrative hours.

Work with representatives from case management and other related areas to ensure that documentation accurately reflects patient acuity and the full scope of care rendered.

Assist with development and maintenance of continuous quality improvement programs with a focus on clinical quality/patient safety, patient experience, care transitions, and patient throughput.

Assist in development, coordination and completion of educational programs for providers that are designed to help them successfully contribute to JHNJ s objective for delivering the best clinical outcomes, the best care transitions, and the best patient experiences.

Mentor and support providers in communications with patients and families to ensure effective care and best patient experiences of care.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Active medical license in the state of New Jersey

Board Certification

Experience in Hospital Medicine with preferred leadership experience and training
