About the Pelvic Surgery Fellowship Program

The Pelvic Surgery Fellowship Program is a one year program designed to provide a graduating chief resident or Ob/Gyn attending one additional year of extensive surgical training. The gynecology section is comprised of 5 experienced board certified gynecologists, 3 gynecologic oncologists, and one urogynecologist. These surgeons perform a broad range of vaginal, abdominal, and minimally invasive gynecologic surgeries, including robotic procedures. Surgical volume was more than 1,000 gynecologic surgical procedures in 2017. The care team for surgical patients includes 2 PGY 2 residents from Boston Medical Center (BMC) and 2 PGY 3 residents BMC and Tufts, and outpatient NP in Gyn Oncology.

Lahey Health is a designated a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology Surgery. Ongoing education initiatives involve perioperative services, surgical simulation, advanced robotic and laparoscopic surgical procedures.

Our fellowship was established in 2003 and has graduated fellows who now serve in academic and private practice position around the country. Although we train our fellows in all approaches to gynecologic surgery, our focus has concentrated in minimally invasive options.

Access to clinical research protocols and supervised review of scientific data will enhance the fellows ability to evaluate clinical literature. Gynecologic Oncology Multidisciplinary Cancer Conferences held bi-weekly. Radiology and Gynecology Correlation Conference is held monthly. Gynecologic Morbidity & Mortality Conferences as well as weekly medical center Grand Rounds round out the educational experience for the fellows.

Protected research time is included in the fellows schedule and contributions to the literature are expected.

Salary and full benefits are paid at the level of PGY5/PGG6 Chief Residents in Surgery. The fellow supervises PGY 2-3 level residents from affiliated Boston Medical Center & Tufts residency programs while on call with an attending.

Lahey Health hospitals are nationally recognized for providing high-quality care and all have been recognized as top 100 hospitals by Truven Health and Becker s Hospital Review.
