The Department of Laboratory Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center welcomes nominations and invites applications for the position of Service Chief of the Transfusion Medicine and Cell Therapy Laboratory Service.  The Department is seeking an exceptional academic physician to lead and expand these vital clinical and laboratory services.

As the world’s largest comprehensive cancer center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) has devoted more than 130 years to exceptional patient care, cutting-edge research, and superb educational programs, making significant contributions to better understand, diagnose, and treat cancer. The close collaboration between laboratory science and clinical treatment is one of its unique strengths, enabling the institution to provide patients with the best care available today as the institution works to discover more effective strategies to prevent, control, and ultimately cure cancer. MSK’s education programs train future physicians and scientists whose knowledge and experience impact cancer treatment and biomedical research around the world.

The Chief of the Transfusion Medicine and Cell Therapy Laboratory Service will report directly to the Chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Dr. Melissa Pessin, and will play a critical leadership role within the department. The Chief will be responsible for overseeing the clinical, academic, and administrative aspects of the Service. MSK seeks a balanced and experienced physician leader, with the ability to advance the clinical, research, and education missions of the service.  The Service Chief should be an outstanding clinician with operations experience a proven ability to lead cutting edge research, a deep appreciation for the academic mission of MSK. MSK seeks a proven leader with experience in a complex academic setting.

The Department of Laboratory Medicine, which is comprised of seven laboratories, six regional sites, and the highest-volume hospital-based blood donor room in the city of New York, provides diagnostic testing for all patients seen at MSK and its Manhattan and regional sites.  The Department has recently relocated the to a new, state-of-the art Laboratory Medicine building with individual space for each service and dedicated resources for innovation activities.  Located on East 64th Street between First and Second Avenues. The new center for Laboratory Medicine maximizes operational efficiency and allows for the development of new tests, permitting the Laboratory Medicine team to provide test results faster, more accurately, and generating more useful information for the treatment teams.
