 Pediatrician-in-Chief, Sinai Health System, Toronto

Applications are invited for the Pediatrician-in-Chief at Sinai Health System (SHS), a fully affiliated academic hospital of the University of Toronto. We are seeking an experienced, contemporary leader, able to develop and implement a strategic vision, build teams and establish productive partnerships.

Sinai Health has a large integrated Women’s and Infants’ Program which includes the Department of Pediatrics, the largest academic neonatal program in Canada, with 112 Level 1-3 beds, and over 10,000 patient encounters annually; the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology which delivers approximately 7500 babies annually, two-thirds of which are high risk deliveries; and the Ontario Fetal Medicine Center, a national resource.

The Pediatrician-in-Chief leads the Department of Pediatrics at SHS, comprised of 14 faculty neonatologists, working with an interprofessional team, and providing education to fellows and pediatric residents. The core clinical activity of the Department is the 62-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, caring primarily for extreme premature infants. Antenatal consultations, healthy newborn care, and follow-up care are also provided. The unit has implemented Evidence Based Practice for Improving Quality (EPIQ) and developed Family Integrated Care as its philosophy of care. The Department also houses the provincial Rogers Hixon Ontario Human Milk Bank, and provides breastfeeding support. The Department is highly productive academically, with 16.2 M in current annual grant funding, supported by staff from the Maternal-Infant Care Research Centre (MiCARE).

The successful candidate must hold an MD degree, have or be eligible for licensure in Ontario, Canada, and hold advanced certification in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. They must be eligible for full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. They will be a visionary with superior leadership qualities, and an excellent communicator, able to mentor junior faculty and foster partnerships. They will be a respected clinician, with a commitment to provision of highest quality care, interprofessional and multilevel education, and have a proven track record and/or commitment to research. They will have demonstrated ability to create and maintain a workplace and learning environment that is equitable, respectful and safe for all staff, trainees and patients.

Remuneration for the role of Chief will be in the range of $200,000, supplemented by clinical income, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is for a 5-year term, renewable once based upon a successful review. The effective start date is January 1, 2020 or shortly thereafter.
