HealthPartners Medical Group (HPMG) is a top Upper Midwest multi-specialty physician practice headquartered in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota and serves the Twin Cities metro, central Minnesota and western Wisconsin communities.  We have an exciting surgical leadership opportunity based at Regions Hospital, our nationally recognized Level 1 Adult/Peds Trauma and Burn Center in St. Paul.

Teamed with the Director of Surgical Specialty Care in a leadership dyad, the HealthPartners Department Chair of Surgery is responsible and accountable for the clinical day-to-day leadership and operations of a large department of surgeons, surgical advanced practice clinicians and residents/med students at HealthPartners ambulatory practice settings and at Regions Hospital, specifically in the areas of trauma surgery, surgical critical care, acute care surgery, general surgery and burn surgery.                                                                                                                                        Qualified candidates must be board certified (MD or DO) in General Surgery with a history of successfully leading a diverse team of surgical professionals – ideally at a Level 1 trauma/burn center.  A practice background in Trauma is preferred.  Regions Hospital is a key training site for the University of Minnesota. Therefore, the successful candidate will be required to maintain a strong relationship with the University and its training programs. This position will involve 40% administrative time.                                                                                

Required Education/Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years recent clinical practice, with proven leadership, management and administrative skills and experience.
  • Reputation for excellent clinical skills.
  • Natural communicator with proven ability to build consensus, trust, and open communication, and a commitment to coaching and fostering team building and group development.  Ability to determine and execute difficult decisions.
  • Possess a working understanding of systems thinking, planning and finance.
  • Track record of working effectively with a dyad partner within an integrated care delivery system.
  • Interest or ability to oversee research activities within the department.
