Summary

The purpose of this position is to participate in the development of patients/clients/participant care plans and to provide and direct the diagnosis and treatment of patients/clients/participants in Midland Care programs.  This position functions as a member of the organized medical staff.  This position will assist administration in implementing patient/client care policies and procedures and participate in organization Quality Assessment Performance Improvement. Will be required to work in all Midland programs on an as-needed basis. The position is supervised by the Medical Director.

Qualifications

Must be a doctor of medicine or osteopathy and must have completed appropriate internship or residency, and is licensed to practice and prescribe scheduled drugs in the State of Kansas. Must remain in good standing with the Board of Healing Arts. Must subscribe to the Hospice philosophy of end of life care and have at least two years of experience working with chronically ill or terminal patients. Knowledge of the principles and practice of primary medical care, with at least a working knowledge of oncology. Knowledge of palliative care with particular emphasis on symptom control associated with terminal illness. Knowledge of the local medical community and the ability to enhance, by association with the Hospice, Midland’s visibility and reputation with area physicians and hospitals. Ability to collaborate with the patient’s primary physician to interpret the hospice program and affect optimum medical care. Ability to collaborate with hospice employees and volunteers as part of an interdisciplinary team. Must possess valid Kansas Driver’s License, in force automobile liability insurance and maintain a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets organization’s insurability standard as defined by Midland policy.

Physical Demands

Continuously (75 - 100% of time) performs a variety of tasks that involve standing, walking and sitting. Must be able to stand and walk continuously (75 - 100% of time). May have to lift up to fifty pounds maximum less than 25% of the time. May be required to push materials, equipment or furniture less than 10% of the time. The capacity to drive and the availability of a car is compulsory. Personal medical issues which may impair patient interaction and evaluation, medical documentation, ambulation, and any activity described above must be disclosed as soon as possible after impairment is known.

Work Environment

Individual must wear business attire all of the time and spends virtually all of the time inside.
