Einstein Healthcare Network

Chief, Division of Rheumatology

Einstein Healthcare Network (EHN), located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is seeking an outstanding clinical and administrative leader as Chief for the Division of Rheumatology for Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia (EMC-P).

This is an exciting opportunity for a physician leader to provide strategic oversight and manage the daily operations of all components for the Division.  The new Chief will report to the Chair of Medicine and provide day-to-day leadership and strategic direction for growth in clinical programs, education, and research. It is expected that the new Chief will build upon the Division’s existing resources and leverage the assets of the Einstein Healthcare Network and Kimmel College of Medicine at Jefferson University, to recruit new faculty members, restore the training program, and build new clinical and research programs.

A key objective for the incoming Chief will be to provide the vision and leadership to build a division that is recognized for both its excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases as well as its responsive to the needs of the region’s diverse urban population. The Chief will be expected to continue to enhance quality and safety while collaborating with other specialists within the broader enterprise to achieve growth in service delivery and enhance multidisciplinary programs and research. There are opportunities to expand the scope of service in diverse settings, through a robust outreach strategy, and the use of technological tools (e.g., telehealth).  An early priority will be to recruit additional full-time faculty members and reactivate the fellowship training program. It is anticipated that the incoming Chief will also lead and/or support the development of a clinical research program, including investigator-initiated and/or industry-sponsored studies.

Serving the needs of Philadelphia and the surrounding area, EMC-P is a 548-bed acute and tertiary care, independent major teaching organization offering a full range of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic care on two campuses. EMC-P is a member of the Einstein Healthcare Network, one of Philadelphia’s largest healthcare systems with 1,237 licensed beds and multiple delivery sites in two counties. EMC-P is an active participant in the education of medical students, nursing students, pharmacy students and allied health students through Sidney Kimmel Medical College – Thomas Jefferson University. There are more than 400 resident and fellow trainees in 32 residency and fellowship programs and 365 full-time faculty at Einstein. Additionally, there are more than 500 student rotations each year. Einstein faculty receives their faculty appointments from Sidney Kimmel Medical College.

In September 2018, EHN and Jefferson Health entered into a binding Definitive Agreement, legally binding the ideas and commitments described in the Letter of Intent, which the two organizations signed in March. The merger would bring together two historically linked academic medical centers whose shared vision is to improve the lives of patients and their communities.

Candidates for this position must be board certified in Rheumatology and eligible for a Pennsylvania license. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated clinical and educational leadership.
