GBMC invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair, Department of Medicine.

The Organization:

The GBMC HealthCare System includes Greater Baltimore Health Alliance (GBHA), GBMC Health Partners, Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC), the Greater Baltimore Medical Center Foundation, Gilchrist Hospice Care and the Sandra & Malcolm Berman Cancer Institute.

Greater Baltimore Medical Center is a 300-bed medical center (acute and subacute care) located on a beautiful suburban campus. GBMC handles more than 26,700 inpatient cases and approximately 60,000 emergency room visits annually. Since its founding in Towson in 1965, GBMC’s accomplishments have validated the vision of its founders to combine the best of community and university-level medicine. GBMC’s main campus also includes three medical office buildings. In addition to its main campus located in Towson, GBMC’s care can be found in several facilities throughout the community, including Hunt Manor, Hunt Valley, Owings Mills, Pikesville, Mays Chapel, Perry Hall and Bel Air.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the CMO/President of GBMC Health Partners, the Chair, Department of Medicine shall

have all the duties and responsibilities as described in the Bylaws of the Medical Staff and will further administrative, teaching and professional medical duties as are customary for Department Chairmen and other duties requested by GBMC. The department’s twelve division chiefs report to the Chair.

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will be a practicing internist or subspecialist with at least five to seven years of significant experience in internal medicine resident education and physician leadership. This individual will demonstrate commitment to clinical excellence and quality improvement, patient satisfaction, standards of care, developing solid physician relationships and caring for the underserved. The successful candidate will complement the internal medicine staff with board certification in internal medicine or an appropriate subspecialty.

Towson is a suburb of Baltimore, with a population of 55,200. It is a college town with tree-lined residential streets, restaurants, bookstores, a major branch of the county library, movie theaters and shopping.
