Sub-Chapter II Medical Board Physician

The NYC Fire Pension Fund seeks an orthopedic physician for its Sub-Chapter II Medical Board.  Board physicians work under limited supervision, examining and evaluating medical evidence to determine eligibility of firefighters and fire officers for disability benefits under the New York City Administrative Code. Preparation and summarization of medical reports.  Board Physicians will be required to review the work of other examiners and are also required to meet 1 day per week.  Remuneration is at the rate of $190 per hour.


1.      Board Certified Orthopedist; and

2.      Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in New York State; and

3.      At least three years of experience as a Disability Evaluation Specialist or related experience.

Preferred Experience and Skills:  Knowledge of federal, state and city laws and regulations pertaining to government policies, regulatory codes, legislation, directives, court precedents or other guidelines.  Knowledge of occupational medicine.  Ability to summarize, analyze, synthesize and interpret complex medical data.  Skill in preparing written communications and quasi-legal documents.  Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships; analyze and evaluate relevant facts and findings related to claims adjudication, and present ideas clearly and concisely.
