The South Texas VA Healthcare System (STVAHCS) is actively recruiting to fill Board Certified Staff Gastroenterologist (BE considered) to help care for our Veterans – American’s Heroes.  Selected candidate will be considered for a faculty appointment at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) & be involved with education & teaching of Gastroenterology residents in our residency program plus medical students, medicine residents & other providers. The STVAHCS is located at San Antonio is the “Flagship” for the South Texas VA Health Care System (STVAHCS), is a Joint Commission accredited, referral level 1b/high complexity, 268 bed facility serving more than 97,000 Veterans in southern Texas, including the rapidly expanding metropolitan San Antonio area. Gastroenterologist to provide the delivery of quality patient care and evidenced- based standards of practice in the Subspecialty of Gastroenterology.  This includes the direct patient care in concert with a GI Fellowship program in out and in-patient care settings. Endoscopic skills in non-advanced endoscopy, small bowel endoscopy, and ancillary GI procedures are required. Experience in the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases is highly desired. Skill and knowledge necessary to provide care to the level of age specific diseases and the range of disease severity.  This includes the ability to identify patient needs and to provide the care needed to promote improvement.

Experience and confidence in providing moderate sedation for endoscopic procedures is required.  Provider will also have teaching responsibilities include the effectiveness in teaching, monitoring and coordination of educational activities - planning, evaluating and documenting of medical students, residents and GI Fellows.

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, (May be required to work evenings or weekends as a 24/7 Full-Time Physician).

•Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.

•Board Certification in Gastroenterology preferred, but Board Eligibility may also be considered
