Clarke and Oconee counties provide hundreds of acres of trails and parkland to enjoy, ranging from hiking trails and classes at facilities such as the State Botanical Garden of Georgia and Sandy Creek Nature Center to amenities  such as athletic fields, tennis courts, mountain bike trails, pools and splash pads, picnic shelters, playgrounds, dog parks, Community Centers, disc golf courses, meeting rooms, farmer's markets, recreational sports leagues for children and adults, and more. In addition to being less than 90 minutes from Atlanta and the North Georgia mountains, Athens is just a few hours' drive from the beautiful cities and beaches of the Georgia coast.
