The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center is seeking a full time cytopathologist/surgical pathologist to join its current complement of ten anatomic pathologists and five clinical pathologists in a busy practice focused on diagnostic pathology and patient care. Clinical rotation on both the cytology and surgical pathology services, as well as providing frozen section consultations in the operating room is expected. Participation in departmental teaching conferences / tumor boards, hospital quality improvement initiatives, committees and leadership activities are encouraged. Good communication skills and the ability to work well with clinical teams is required.
The department’s surgical case volume in 2018 was about 34,000. Last year’s cytology case volume included about 12,000 Paps and 7,000 non gyn cytology cases, including over 1800 FNA’s. Cytopathologist provide rapid on site interpretation support in bronchoscopy, endoscopy and interventional radiology. The department has subspecialty expertise in GI pathology, medical renal pathology, dermatopathology, neuropathology, cytopathology, transplant pathology, hematopathology and breast pathology as well as other areas. We also provide multi-specialty consultative services to other hospitals within the Beth Israel Lahey Health network.
