An Invitation to Apply for the Position of

Dean of the Yale School of Medicine

Yale University

New Haven, Connecticut

“As a preeminent academic medical center that supports the highest quality education, research, and patient care, the Yale School of Medicine will (1) educate and inspire scholars and future leaders who will advance the practice of medicine and the biomedical sciences; (2) advance medical knowledge to sustain and improve health and to alleviate suffering caused by illness and disease; and (3) provide outstanding care and service for patients in a compassionate and respectful manner.” -- The Yale School of Medicine Mission Statement

Yale University seeks an inspirational leader to serve as the next dean of the Yale School of Medicine.

The dean will find a scholarly community that believes Yale School of Medicine can chart a transformational course, where research, educational, and clinical faculty, in all ranks and tracks, reinforce each other’s aspirations, where science thrives, where students lead and respond to pedagogical innovation and where clinicians deliver exemplary care in settings throughout Connecticut. Learners, clinicians, and researchers all seek an innovative, diverse, inclusive culture that is explicitly values-driven and responsive to the human needs and aspirations of all of its patients and participants.

The school has stewarded preeminent science, created a celebrated educational program and, in partnership with the Yale New Haven Health System, has built a trajectory of constant improvement in clinical care. Increased specialization and improved clinical quality have produced dramatic growth in reputation and patient care visits

Yale offers a new dean the rare opportunity to lead an already exemplary school that is ambitious for its future. The dean will find eager and committed colleagues, proud of their history of attracting talent, who will readily join a dean to deliver the promise of a great, scholarly medical school, steeped in an ethic of service.
