You will serve as a Physician (Gastroenterology) in the Internal Medicine Department, Gastroenterology Division of NAVAL HOSPITAL CAMP PENDLETON.


  • You will perform inpatient and outpatient interventional and therapeutic Gastroenterology care and services
  • You will provide comprehensive consultation, examination, diagnosis, and treatment of gastrointestinal, hepatic, pancreatobiliary, and nutritional diseases
  • You will technically supervise, perform, or assist in the instruction of, other health care professionals, residents, interns, medical students (e.g. diagnostic and treatment procedures) in accordance with clinical privileges
  • You will prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
  • You will perform duties such as colonoscopies, including biopsy and polypectomy, diagnostic abdominal laparoscopy (peritoneoscopy), with directed biopsy, EKG interpretation, and having actively practiced these skills within the last 24 months

The Medical Officer (Gastroenterology) works collaboratively within a team of professionals dedicated to quality, efficient, cost effective, patient care services. The selectee will serve as a Gastroenterology Physician providing care and support services to the medical staff, support staff, inpatients, and outpatients of the Naval Hospital, Camp Pendleton, CA. In addition, he/she will be a faculty physician on the staff of the Family Medicine Residency and instructs Primary Care residents as part of their training program.

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:

DEGREE: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada that is accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States.

RESIDENCY: Five years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Internal Medicine or Gastroenterology. Your resume must reflect you have a sufficient level of expertise in Internal Medicine or Gastroenterology to perform the core privileges of this position at the GP-15 level.

LICENSING: Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

IN ADDITION to the above, satisfy BUMEDs clinical privileging requirements which includes the following:

Completion of a residency program in the specialty approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible.

Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as an Internal Medicine or Gastroenterology Physician within the past two years, actively practiced within the past two years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).

No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.

Board certification is desired but not required.


This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Possession of Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Certification, American Red Cross Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and ACLS certification is required. Failure to possess these factors WILL result in an ineligible rating. Possession of these factors must be verifiable via your resume or supporting documents.
