Keck Graduate Institute is a member of the Claremont Colleges, a consortium of five undergraduate liberal arts colleges, two graduate institutions, and Claremont University Consortium, which provides shared institutional support services. The Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences is dedicated to education and research aimed at translating into practice the power and potential of the life sciences.

Applications are sought for an open-rank position with a 6-year renewal term appointment to fill the Henry E. Riggs Chair in Business and Bioscience Ethics. We seek faculty candidates who are highly dedicated to excellence in teaching and research related to applied ethics.

Applicants should have an earned Ph.D. (or Master’s with substantial experience) in a relevant field. Candidates having both bioscience industry and clinical ethics experience will be given preference.

  • The successful candidate is expected to teach multiple sections of ethics courses
  • serve as a resource for faculty and students interested in ethical issues
  • lead programmatic efforts to integrate ethics into the broader curriculum
  • conduct and disseminate research in applied ethics related to the health and life sciences industries in diverse interdisciplinary outlets
  • serve as faculty advisor on industry sponsored Team Masters Projects
  • apply for research and teaching grants from nonprofit foundations, government agencies and industry

Ethical Issues or dilemmas have been of great interest in the life sciences industry especially in recent years with topics including drug pricing, information sharing, and gene editing posing new challenges to life science companies. Applicants should have knowledge and practical insights into current and relevant ethical issues in the life sciences industry, and use innovative teaching methods with special emphasis on active learning.
