Counseling & Psychiatry
The University of South Carolina’s Student Health Services is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced psychiatrist for our Counseling & Psychiatry Department who is interested in joining an accredited patient-centered medical home within a college health environment. We are housed in a 68,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art medical facility with Gold LEED distinction. The psychiatrist will provide care through a care-team model with other psychiatrists, counselors, social workers, nurses, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered dietitians and other allied health professionals.
The psychiatrist will specialize in preventing, diagnosing, and treating patients’ mental health concerns and/or illnesses. Individual will treat a wide variety of conditions and see clients with conditions requiring medication on a short-term basis, such as anxiety and panic disorder, and those with long-term needs such as bipolar or eating disorders. Patients with more disabling issues may be referred out based on best practices and in accordance with university policies and procedures. The candidate will participate in other medical staff duties and work cooperatively in a multi-disciplinary setting.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited medical school and completion of internship and psychiatric residency. Minimum 2 years of experience. Must be board certified or eligible in psychiatry. Unrestricted license (or able to obtain license) to practice medicine in South Carolina. Unrestricted DEA. CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in college health or adolescent medicine. Strong psychosocial, clinical assessment skills. Minimal supervision regarding use of time, able to prioritize work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, clients and families. Ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations. Experience with electronic medical records is preferred.
