Job Description/Summary:

WellSpan Summit Physician Services Palliative Care is seeking a full-time physician to do inpatient consults/family meetings at two hospitals, as well as build an outpatient clinic based on follow ups from inpatients, referrals from Oncology and other outpatient offices. Call is shared with 3 MD's in the practice.

We are very involved with our patient care and management of their symptoms. As their hospice provider, we arrange hospice care and follow them in the event they go to a local nursing home, visiting if permitted, or having them transported to outpatient clinic. We do occasional home visits when the patient is too sick. We do everything we can to prevent our patients from being admitted to the hospital if that is their wish. We offer IV Lasix and fluids through IV therapy located adjacent to the Palliative Care office. Often the therapies we can provide in the clinic averts the patient from spending hours in the ER or possibly being admitted.

We feel that having a trusting relationship and a familiar face eases the patient and family during this difficult time. Our nurses and providers do their best to follow their patients by following them from outpatient clinic, to the hospital and to the nursing home or no matter where they are.
