Medical Director Position Summary

The Medical Director is responsible for providing and/or ensuring twenty-four hour medical control to paramedics located in remote regions. 

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide topside medical control to paramedics located in remote regions (24/7 call duties)
  • Provide oversight and support to SMS management team and SMS QA/QHSE coordinator as it relates to day to day medical services
  • Review and update SMS Expanded Scope Protocols, Thrombolytic Protocols and SMS Medication Formulary every 2 years
  • Teach Clinical Extension and Medical Person in Charge Course when scheduled
  • Develop and present yearly SMS Staff meetings with QA/QHSE Coordinator
  • Develop and present 2nd day of paramedic training for major drilling companies
  • Perform quarterly Mock Drills for major drilling companies
  • QA review of paramedic records with SMS QA/QHSE Coordinator
  • Review QA issues as they relate to paramedic deficiencies and develop paramedic remediation plan with SMS QA/QHSE Coordinator
  • Meet/interact with Acadian’s Lead Medical Director
  • Provide weekly Medical Control Topside Logs to SMS Management team members
  • Provide quarterly and yearly Medical Control Topside Logs to client’s Medical Director
  • Provide yearly Fitness to Work (FTW) exams using telemedicine services to employees of major oil companies
  • Review and sign OSHA Respiratory Questionnaires for SMS and clients
  • Review and sign SMS paramedic recertification training documents
  • Meet with client companies (Medical Director, medical team, HR, HSE) when requested
  • Provide/present to various companies health related topics as they relate to their employees
  • Provide case management for major drilling companies employees when evacuated for a medical issue or work-related injury (from rig/platform/vessel to care rendered at hospital/clinic)
  • Review case management treatment decisions and referrals with Americas Medical Advisor and Corporate Medical Director as required
  • Interact with American Claims Service representatives on all case management evacuations'

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess

  • Physician Board Certification ABMS preferred in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine with Occupational Medicine experience
  • 5+ years clinical experience and direct patient care (Emergency Department and Occupational Practice)
  • Clinical experience in providing telemedicine services
