SUMMARY: The Medical Director has responsibility for developing, implementing and monitoring health care programs within the communities developed and managed by Erickson Living.  This includes but is not limited to programs providing primary care, hospital care, long-term care, home health services, pharmacy services, rehabilitative services, and emergency services for the residents of the communities.  Additionally, the Medical Director will represent the VP & Medical Director in all other non-clinical functions relating to his role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Provide leadership and direction to the EL community's health services departments so that the mission of the institution is reflected in long-range, strategic and operational plans; including service design, resource allocation and organizational policies.  Establish expectations, plans, priorities and monitor performance of health services per corporation wide standards.
  2. Research and document standards for medical services across the continuum of care.  This includes the administrative, financial, and physical plant standards within the communities at each stage of growth.
  3. Co-Chair the Resident Care Operations Team with the VP & Medical Director.  This operations team reports to the Vice President of Operations and is responsible for; coordination, standardization and continuously evaluating all resident care services within the independent living areas of EL communities.
  4. Explore alternative funding methods and managed care options.  This includes exploring options for participation with current providers of Medicare HMO products, negotiating with providers to provider the care in a capitated system and devising the benefit packages for the residents.
  5. Investigate health care providers, systems, hospitals, etc., in areas of future communities.
  6. Negotiate contracts for medical services with providers in new communities.
  7. Monitor compliance with contracts and financial obligations for health care providers at all communities.
  8. Assist VP & Medical Director in recruiting other staff members for the Erickson Living Communities Medical Department or the retirement communities as necessary.
  9. Represent the VP & Medical Director for non-clinical matters in his absence within the corporation and in external affairs requiring EL Medical Department presence.
  10. Coordinate research and education efforts at the corporate or community level in cooperation with the appropriate staff members of the communities.
  11. Coordinate sub-leases with any medically related tenants in the communities in conjunction with the corporate Legal Department.
  12. May directly supervise Director of Pharmacy Services and monitor financial performance of and services provided by the Pharmacy to the Erickson Living Communities.
  13. Establish and Maintain Medical Staff By-Laws and credentialing for the communities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Medical License. Any State or Federally mandated certification or credentials to be a medical director of a Skilled Nursing Facility.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Speak in a manner of tone and volume to be heard by a patient with a moderate amount of hearing impairment.  Fluent in written and spoken English.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

Medical Doctor Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Practice
