Diversified Search has been retained to conduct a national search for the Senior Director of the Operating Rooms and Perioperative Systems position with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center( MSK) is the world’s oldest and largest private cancer center devoting more than 130 years to exceptional patient care, innovative research, and outstanding educational programs. MSK is one of 47 National Cancer Institute–designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers, with state-of-the-art science flourishing side by side with clinical studies.

The Senior Director of the Operating Rooms and Peri-Operative Systems works in concert with the MSK operational leadership to provide the ideal end-to-end experience to every surgical patient and caregiver, every time, through a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.  The Senior Director works with multiple stakeholders, including surgeons, anesthesiologists and CRNAs, nurses, and other staff in the peri-operative, peri- procedural, and operative spaces. The Senior Director drives the development of peri-operative clinical pathways and protocols that ensure the quality and safety of patient care while simultaneously increasing the value of clinical care through improved efficiency, lower costs, and/or better outcomes. The Senior Director of the Operating Rooms and Perioperative Systems provides leadership for the OR and procedural platforms on M2/M6 and in the regional sites, and collaborates closely with other leaders, including the Chairs of Anesthesia and Surgery, the Director of the Josie Robertson Surgical Center (JRSC) and the Senior Director of Peri-operative Nursing, to coordinate operating/procedural room activities across MSK.

Requirements and Preferences:

  • MD/DO from accredited institution; board certification in surgical or anesthesia program.
  • 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience as a physician-leader that includes handling departmental budgets, managing physician performance, accountability for outcomes in patient safety and quality, and operational improvement.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in a healthcare organization using Lean/Six Sigma in the OR environment, or equivalent experience in using robust process improvement methodologies to optimize peri-operative and OR processes, is strongly preferred.
  • The sophisticated systems-thinking ability required to focus on process rather than individual employees when results do not meet goals; with Strong coaching and facilitation skills.
  • A high level of leadership skills necessary to effectively plan, organize, staff, direct, and evaluate the healthcare and management activities in the OR environment.
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification is a plus.
