The Bedford VA Medical Center is currently recruiting for an Geriatrics/Internal Medicine Site Director (SD) to help develop and expand training at the Bedford VA. The site director will be responsible for competency-based curricular innovation, implementation, assessment, and oversight relating to the clinical and academic experiences at the Bedford VA of geriatric fellows and a small number of internal medicine trainees. The position will include direct teaching/facilitation of educational and scholarly activities.  The SD will work closely with the program director(s) of affiliated residencies(s) and clinical section chiefs at the Bedford VA to ensure that core curricular objectives are met. The SD will be a core member of a new health professions education team tasked with developing health professions education throughout the institution.

The SD will be a geriatrician with experience in health professions education.  Family Medicine-trained clinicians are welcome to apply. Formal training in health professions education is preferred but is not required; at a minimum the applicant should have 2 or more years of experience in graduate medical education and look forward to further professional development. The SD will report to the Associate Chief of Staff for Education.  Appointment will be for a 2-year, renewable term. Academic appointments will be available through Boston University.

The SD will spend 8 hours per week in these activities.  Remaining time will be spent on other clinical and academic activities depending on experience.  Alternatively, a part-time appointment may be possible in which the SD continues to work at an academic affiliate.

The Bedford VA currently has approximately 20 FTEE residency positions composed of trainees in geriatrics, psychiatry, family medicine, internal medicine and preventive medicine.  Core clinical experiences at the Bedford VA relate to geriatrics and psychiatry. Further expansion is anticipated. Additionally, the institution has large training programs in psychology and social work that emphasize interprofessional approaches to mental health care.

Potential applicants must be physicians in good standing and meet requirements for employment with the U.S. Government including U.S. citizenship.  This is a designated drug testing position.  VA is an Equal Opportunity Employer and Provides Reasonable Accommodation to applications with disabilities where appropriate.

The hospital sits on a large, beautifully wooded campus adjacent to walking trails and a golf course.  Bedford is located in the cradle of the nation, with Concord, Lexington, and Boston close by. If you’d like to enjoy the benefits of living in an area rich in cultural, recreational and entertainment amenities in coastal New England while caring for our veterans and would like more information about this position, please contact Jim Meisel, MD, Associate Chief of Staff for Education. He may be reached at 781-687-3641 or james.meisel@va.gov .

An official posting of this opportunity will be offered only by ENRM Bedford VA Human Resources.
