TRAUMA / CRITICAL CARE SURGEON – EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA

A BC/BE Trauma/Surgical Critical Care Surgeon is invited to join the employed group at Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN). This full-time position includes trauma, critical care, emergency and elective general surgery.

The LVHN Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery is comprised of 8 full time trauma surgeons and 6 advanced practice clinicians. The team manages a 14-bed Trauma/Neurosurgical ICU, a 28-bed trauma step down unit, and co-manages a 33-bed Medical-Surgical ICU.  The Division has a significant academic component which includes overseeing a RRC-approved Surgical Critical Care Fellowship, participating in clinical research, and daily teaching of surgical residents and medical students. Faculty appointments are available through the University of South Florida, College of Medicine, LVHN’s academic partner.

The Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery serves an eight county area in Eastern Pennsylvania with a population of over two million.  LVHN’s Level 1 Adult and Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Centers are located at the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest campus in Allentown, Pennsylvania. LVH-Cedar Crest is a 988-bed teaching hospital and was the first designated Level I trauma program in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is one of the busiest trauma centers in Pennsylvania, performing over 5000 trauma evaluations per year that result in over 4000 annual trauma admissions. The Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Program is supported by three pediatric surgeons at the integrated LVHN Reilly Children’s Hospital. LVHN has four air ambulances, three trauma resuscitation bays and a dedicated trauma operating room. The Trauma System at LVHN also includes a Level 3 Trauma Program at LVHN-Pocono in East Stroudsburg and a Level 4 Trauma Center at LVHN-Hazelton in Hazelton.

Lehigh Valley Health Network is a nonprofit, community hospital system with over 1800 beds across 8 hospital campuses, 2000 medical staff, 160+ practices and an academic environment with 20 fully accredited, free standing residency and fellowship programs.  U.S. News & World Report has ranked LVHN among America’s Top Hospitals for 23 consecutive years and currently has two of our hospital campuses ranked in the top 20 hospitals in the state of Pennsylvania.

Lehigh Valley Health Network is located in the beautiful Lehigh Valley (Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton), a fast growing region in eastern Pennsylvania with over 820,000 residents.  The area has a moderate cost of living, outstanding public and private school systems, ten colleges and universities, and an abundance of cultural and recreational activities including two symphonies, an art museum, and minor league baseball and hockey teams.  Just a 60 minute drive north of Philadelphia and a 90 minute drive west of New York City.
