  Washington DC VA Medical Center seeks a Full-Time, Board Certified/Board Eligible Orthopedic Surgeon. 

Preferred Qualifications for the Orthopedics Attending Physician:

  • ABOS Board Eligible/Certified
  • Total Joints Fellowship Training
  • Performs Revision Total Joints Procedures
  • High desire for Proficiency in Anterior Total Hip Arthroplasty and Hip Arthroscopy skills

Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Providing special training and expertise in the treatment of shoulder and elbow conditions and sports medicine problems; which include but are not limited to fractures, arthroplasty, rotator cuff repairs, ligament repair/reconstructions, allograft reconstruction, and shoulder repair/reconstruction using minimally invasive techniques and arthroscopic skills
    • Evaluating patients in the orthopedic surgery clinic, emergency room, intensive care unit, operating room, and from other inpatient services.
    • Supervising trainees including medical students, residents, and fellows in these settings.
    • Participating in Orthopaedic Surgical Teaching Rounds and conferences.
    • Assisting in the daily running of the orthopaedic surgery clinical service in both the inpatient, OR, and outpatient setting.
    • Assisting in maintaining clinical flow efficiency in the outpatient setting, keeping clinic and operative wait times low.

Federal Retirement Plan:

  VA employees are covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). FERS is a three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits; 2) FERS basic benefits (pension); and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan.  The Federal Government also provides an automatic basic contribution (1% of salary) and up to 4% of salary in matching contributions, depending on the amount of the employee contribution.  For retired military personnel, these benefits are in addition to full monthly retirement pay or pension.
