You will serve as a Physician (Pediatrics) in the Pediatrics Department of NAVAL HOSPITAL WHIDBEY ISLAND. The purpose of this position is to provide full scope of primary and preventive health care services to infant and children assigned to Naval Hospital Oak Harbor.
- You will provide comprehensive medical care and treatment of infants and children
- You will perform emergency treatment and make arrangements for hospitalization
- You will maintain complete medical records for each patient by recording subjective and objective findings for each visit and ensure that it is documented
- You will perform routine care and follow-up care of well babies
- You will take complete histories and conduct physical examinations on well babies age 2 weeks to 5 years
- You will schedule follow-up for any problems discovered during examinations and evaluations
- You will provide patient consultation on a case-by-case basis to health professionals in the Well Baby Clinic

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:
DEGREE: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada that is accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States.
RESIDENCY: 3 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Pediatrics. Your resume must reflect you have a sufficient level of expertise in Pediatrics to perform the core privileges of this position.
LICENSING: Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Satisfy BUMED clinical privileging requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following:
Completion of a Family Medicine residency approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible.
Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as a Pediatric Physician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).
No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.
Board certification is desired but not required.
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of experience at or equivalent to the GP-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: conduct physical examination of infants and children; determine need for x-ray exams and clinical lab tests; prescribe and administer treatment for acute illnesses and other diseases; perform routine care and follow-up care of well babies; evaluate immunization records; schedule follow-ups; provide patient consultation on case-by-case basis.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR:
This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Possession of Basic Life Support (BLS), Advances Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). Failure to possess this factor WILL result in an ineligible rating. Possession of the factor must be verifiable via your resume or support documents.
