Tucson is a fast-growing Sunbelt city of just over one million people, blending modern, metropolitan life with scenic beauty and rich cultural diversity. Indian, Spanish, Mexican, and Pioneer influences have created a study in contrasts between old and new, traditional and modern, rural and metropolitan.
Tucson enjoys more sunshine than any other city in the United States, about 350 days each year. Winters are mild, with average daily maximum temperatures of 64 67 degrees from December through February, 72 degrees in November and March. Summers are warm and dry, with daily highs in the 90's from June through September, with a humidity of only 10 to 30%, making warm days feel cooler. Two rainy seasons replenish the desert landscape, usually in August and January, with a total annual rainfall of approximately 11 inches.
Whether you're a participant or a spectator, the Tucson sports scene has something for you. In addition to world-renowned golf courses, championship tennis courts, horseback riding, and year-round swimming, Tucson also offers skiing, bicycling, hiking, camping, hunting, and fishing. Spectators enjoy Pac-12 football, basketball, and baseball at the University of Arizona. Tucson is also home to professional rodeo, and annual PGA and LPGA golf tournaments. NBA basketball, NFL football, MLB baseball, 15 Spring Training teams, white water rafting, tubing, and water skiing are within two hours. The Sea of Cortez, with white sand beaches and deep-sea fishing as well as scuba diving, is within 200 miles of Tucson.
Tucson is located 115 miles southeast of Phoenix, and 60 miles north of Mexico. In addition to all of Tucson's attractions and amenities, there are numerous choices for adventurous days exploring the surrounding areas. Mountains, ghost towns, wineries, historic sites, a foreign country, natural wonders, and western and mining towns are among the many choices for a day of adventure. There are few other cities in America where you can open your Christmas presents in 76 degree weather and spend the rest of the day in the mountains building a snowman.
Tucson is home to two of the five highest ranked public high schools in the United States (#3 BASIS Oro Valley and #4 BASIS Tucson North) as well as University High School (ranked #27 in the US), yet has a cost of living that is below the national mean. In fact, the average SAA partner could buy a home at the median price level in Tucson with just 6 months salary!
