OB/GYN Department, Wright State University, Physician/Researcher

Wright State University (WSU) Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM), Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/Gyn) in Dayton, Ohio, is recruiting an outstanding clinician-scientist to join their faculty. Strong skills and a track record of clinical and/or translational research is required.

WSU BSOM educational programs include training leading to the M.D., M.D./Ph.D., M.D./M.B.A., or M.D./M.P.H. degree for about 440 medical students; 13 medical specialty residency training programs and 10 subspecialty fellowship training programs for about 445 resident/fellows; master’s degree programs in aerospace medicine, pharmacology/toxicology and public health; and a wide variety of continuing medical education programs for local practicing physicians. The OB/Gyn residency is a joint civilian-military program; 3 civilian and 3 military incoming residents each year. Innovative educational programs have made BSOM a national leader in generalist medicine, community service and diversity of our student body. Our research programs are distinguished by interdisciplinary teamwork and community collaboration and include nationally recognized centers of excellence in genomics, toxicology, neuroscience, substance abuse and treatment, and human growth and development, including the Fels Longitudinal Study.

The successful candidate will report to the Chair of OB/Gyn and hold a faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor; rank relative to qualifications. This is a 12-month, non-tenure track faculty position. The position includes clinical practice through the faculty practice plan and provides for approximately 20% or greater amount of time dedicated to conduct research, mentoring other department faculty, residents and medical students in developing and pursuing their research. Experience in secondary analysis of existing data sets and/or analysis of publicly available data sets is highly desired.

WSU OB/Gyn wishes to further its research reputation. We currently employ a Ph.D Research Director and have collaborative relationships with several basic science Ph.D researchers. WSU BSOM and Premier Health jointly developed the Clinical Trials Research Alliance (CTRA) to advance the academic reputation of both institutions.

Current research activities include clinical and translational studies across a range of obstetric and gynecologic conditions. The department has a track record of conducting trials with AbbVie, Bayer, MyoVant, GSK, Progenity, and the Patty Brisben Foundation for Women’s Sexual Health, and actively seeks new industry or investigator-initiated opportunities.  Residents and medical students actively engage in research projects with faculty mentors in the department to meet graduation requirements.

Work Locations: Miami Valley Hospital and/or lab; Wright State University lab; Five Rivers Health Center for Women's Healthcare; Wright State Physicians Private Practice. Position support includes clinical scheduling and billing staff and at least one RN/MA for work with Wright State Physicians, our practice plan. Administrative support, shared by several physicians, is provided. Academic and clinical support are determined by the Department Chair and the Practice (Site) Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

1. M.D., MBBS or D.O. degree

2. Board Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology / Ob/Gyn sub-specialty

3. Unrestricted Ohio Medical License (current or eligible)

4. DEA Registration Number

5. Minimum 5-years post-residency clinical experience

6. Proven track record of research/academic productivity

7. Minimum of 3 professional references will be required prior to an on-campus interview

Preferred Qualifications

Candidate possesses interest and ability in clinical/classroom education & clinical/translational research and,

1. Experience working in an academic position with combined clinical, teaching, and research experience

2. Proven ability to obtain external research funding

3. Ability/willingness to cover in-house Ob/Gyn service call

4. Experience in secondary analysis of existing data sets and/or analysis of publicly available data sets is highly desired

5. Candidates with additional training in research methodologies (M.D./Ph.D, M.D./MS Medical Research, M.D./MPH, and/or fellowship training in MIGS, Family Planning, etc) are strongly encouraged to apply

Essential Functions and Percent of Time

1. 20% or more protected Research Time – Conduct research. Mentor department faculty, residents and medical students in developing and pursuing professional research goals
2. 30-40% Medical Education – Participate in formal and clinical teaching activities for medical students and residents as assigned by the chair
3. 35-40% Clinical Practice - Time in clinical services, to include night call, as assigned by the chair

The above percentages are negotiable based on interests and extramural finding.
