“Temple’s Rheumatology Section is one of the oldest in the United States. It was founded in the 1930s by John Lansbury, a pioneer in quantitating disease activity and a master clinician. Throughout the years, several hundred physicians trained at Temple have gone on to productive careers in clinical rheumatology, research, including a number of leaders in the field. The program’s strength draws from its outstanding faculty, from the breadth and depth of patients who come to Temple for care, and from close collaborative relations with clinical and basic scientists.”

Summary of Opportunity

The Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University (LKSOM), Section of Rheumatology announces the search for an academically oriented rheumatologist to join our section in the Department of Medicine.  The faculty physician is expected to contribute to teaching Rheumatology fellows by taking part in educational activities, to take part in ongoing clinical research projects, and to care for Rheumatology patients in the newly renovated and modern Medical Office Building.

Currently, the Rheumatology Section consists of eight faculty members.  The Rheumatology Clinic cares for a diverse patient population with a wide range of rheumatic diseases, including large numbers of patients with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.   The Section of Rheumatology provides care for outpatients with musculoskeletal disorders. Patients are seen every day, and there is a weekly Lupus Clinic. Several ongoing research projects are underway using samples from Rheumatology patients. An onsite Infusion Center facilitates administration of biological and other intravenous therapy and also benefits clinical research. The Section is also responsible for inpatient consultations in Rheumatology at Temple University Hospital.

The Section’s laboratory effort is focused on systemic autoimmunity. State-of-the-art laboratories are located in the new Medical Education and Research Building. Section scientists work side by side with scientists from related disciplines in the Temple Autoimmunity Center, a collaborative group of translational researchers sharing an interest in autoimmunity.

The successful candidate will be board eligible/board certified in Rheumatology and interested in pursuing or continuing a career in an academic environment.  Rank and compensation commensurate with experience.

Temple Health, one of Philadelphia's leading academic medical centers, is home to more than 1,000 physicians and scientists who share the mission of bringing innovative treatments to patients.

Giving our patients access to some of the world's most advanced therapies — and helping them achieve outcomes once thought impossible — is the driving force for all our clinical care, research, and medical education.
