The Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System (SAVAHCS) is seeking a Gastroenterologist eager to practice clinical medicine in an academic teaching environment. The gastroenterologist will be committed to quality patient care and teaching related to GI and Liver disorders. We are seeking a candidate with advanced training in severe liver disease and in transplant hepatology so as to bring this expertise to the care of our Veterans. Proficiency in standard endoscopy procedures is expected. The physician will participate in the education and supervision of house staff including GI fellows, residents and medical students. SAVAHCS is the principal teaching affiliate with the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Therefore, the selectee must be eligible for a faculty appointment at the University of Arizona, Division of Gastroenterology, and participate in the VA and University Division conferences. The candidate will be expected to teach; preference will be given to candidates who have shown interest and capability of contributing to the medical literature. There are numerous opportunities for research and for collaboration in research projects. Preference will be given to candidates who are Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. If selected for this position you must meet specific individual eligibility requirements, and submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services Office.
