Overview
Job Summary

Tower Health Reading Hospital, a prominent provider of complete health care services in eastern Pennsylvania, is seeking a physician to join its large and complex Department of Pathology. The position is available immediately to replace an impending retirement and will be based at the Reading Hospital, a 673 bed facility located on a beautiful college-like campus in West Reading, Pennsylvania. The system also includes numerous physician offices offering multiple specialties as well as separate sites for same day surgery, post-acute, and rehabilitation patients. Sixteen laboratory Patient Service Centers are located throughout the county and are integrated into the system to support the overall mission. The Department employs over 250 individuals, including 8 pathologists who have a wide variety of specialized competencies in both anatomic and clinical pathology. Annually, all participate in interpreting approximately 35,000 surgical and 32,000 cytologic (including 5600 non-gynecological) specimens, and have apportioned responsibilities for medical direction of over 4 million laboratory tests. Nearby public school districts enjoy excellent reputations, and the community adjacent to the Hospital is one of the most desirable in the state; many physicians on staff enjoy commutes of five to ten minutes. The immediate urban and suburban areas abound in cultural and recreational opportunities, and the surrounding countryside consists of picturesque farmlands and slowly rolling hills ideal for many outdoor activities. Ocean beaches and the world class cities of New York and Philadelphia are at most within a few hours drive, making weekends and even day trips to an infinity of attractions entirely feasible.

Qualifications

The successful applicant will be board certified or eligible in both AP and CP, and ideally will have developed interests in breast and gynecologic pathology. Expertise in the medical supervision of a blood bank will be a major plus. The new colleague must also be comfortable with all aspects of professional communication, as the department supports a large number of multidisciplinary conferences, especially those focused on the management of oncology patients.
