Outstanding Thoracic Surgery Position with Leadership Opportunity at Carle Cancer Center and an Academic Appointment at Carle Illinois College of Medicine in Urbana, Illinois
Carle Foundation Hospital is excited to add a Thoracic Surgeon to Carle Cancer Center in Urbana, Illinois. The thoracic surgeon would primary focus on oncological surgical management of patients with lung and esophagus cancers, thymus tumors, interventional bronchoscopy, with some benign foregut surgery cases. Training and interest in Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery is preferred.
Thoracic surgeon would enjoy a very generous compensation package in a stable, vertically integrated Carle Health System, while practicing in a multi-disciplinary setting with weekly Lung Cancer Tumor Board, outpatient clinic and office in the Cancer Center, and a strong support from Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Pulmonary Medicine Services. Carle Cancer Center has a strong clinical cancer research with a National Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) Grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and currently > 100 open clinical trials for cancer patients in the East Central Illinois.
Thoracic surgeon would be able to work with a Surgical Oncologist in the Cancer Center for management of select patients with cancer and would also enjoy a great support for call coverage from three (3) Cardiothoracic Surgeons who primarily focus on cardiac pathology at Carle Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI). Both the Cancer Center and HVI are on the same campus in Urbana, Illinois. Carle currently has two (2) Da Vinci Robots and wants to stay at the forefront of technological advances in medicine.
The ideal candidate would have some post-training experience, be board certified/board eligible in Thoracic Surgery and have excellent interpersonal skills for program building. Candidates with leadership experience or interest are welcome to apply. The position would include a dedicated time for teaching General Surgery Residents at Carle’s General Surgery Residency Program. For candidates with a strong academic background, a research component will strongly be considered. Carle Cancer Center is a home of Stephens Family Clinical Research Institute with an existing opportunity to support investigator initiated studies. In addition, Carle Cancer Center has a close collaboration with the Univ. of Illinois Basic Science Cancer Center in Urbana, Illinois.Nearly equidistant to Chicago, Indianapolis and St. Louis, Champaign-Urbana is home to the 150-year-old University of Illinois.
