VABHS is dually affiliated with Harvard Medical School (HMS) and Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) and serves as the major tertiary referral center for Veterans from throughout New England. VABHS provides inpatient, residential, and outpatient medical-surgical and mental health services across three major campuses, five community-based outpatient clinics, and several residential rehabilitation facilities. VABHS provides mental health care to 13,000 Veterans in a full spectrum of inpatient (126 beds), residential (131 beds), and outpatient programs. VABHS is the nation’s largest recipient of VA research funds with particular strength in neuroscience.  VABHS is a host site for numerous national research programs, including two divisions of the National Center for PTSD, the Million Veteran Program (the world’s largest genomic biorepository), VA’s contribution to All of Us, and brain banks for CTE, PTSD, and Alzheimer’s disease. VABHS hosts more than 3400 trainees annually in medicine, nursing, and the allied health professions.

Director, Mental Health, VA Boston Healthcare System

VABHS is seeking a board-certified psychiatrist or a psychologist to serve as Director of Mental Health. The primary responsibility of the Director, Mental Health is the organization and oversight of mental health care delivered by psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and advanced practice nurses. In collaboration with the Associate Chiefs of Staff for Research and Education, chief of psychiatry and chief of psychology, the Director of Mental Health also supports research, teaching, and faculty development for faculty and trainees in psychiatry at HMS and BUSM.  We seek an individual with demonstrated leadership skills, clinical excellence, a commitment to education, and the ability to catalyze the growth of clinical and basic research. The ideal candidate should have a national reputation and academic accomplishments consistent with appointment as associate professor or professor at HMS or BUSM. The incumbent will select primary appointment at one of the principal affiliates with secondary appointment at the other.

Head, VA-Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry

VHABHS is seeking a board-certified psychiatrist to serve as Head, VA-HMS Department of Psychiatry, one of seven HMS appointing departments of Psychiatry. The principal administrative responsibility of the VA-HMS Department Head is the appointment and promotion of HMS faculty and staff in psychiatry at VABHS. In this capacity, the VA-HMS Department Head serves on the HMS Department of Psychiatry Executive Committee with heads of psychiatry from six other HMS teaching hospitals. In collaboration with the VABHS Director of Mental Health and the Associate Chiefs of Staff for Research and Education, the VA-HMS Department Head also supports research, teaching, evidence-based clinical care, and faculty development for more than 200 HMS faculty and trainees in psychiatry at VABHS. We seek an individual with a vibrant psychiatry or neuroscience research program, demonstrated leadership skills, and the ability to catalyze the growth of clinical and basic research related to the mental health disorders of Veterans. The ideal candidate should have a national reputation and academic accomplishments commensurate with appointment as professor at HMS.
