Imperial County is located 90 miles by freeway to the city of San Diego to the west, and 90 miles to Palm Springs to the north. Located in a rich farming area, Imperial County has a population of 180,000 and borders with Yuma, Arizona, and with the cosmopolitan city of Mexicali, Mexico, population 1.2 million. San Diego State University maintains a satellite campus in Calexico, and there are a number of private and public universities located in Mexicali, the state capital of Baja California Norte. Imperial County’s location and diversity make it the perfect place for a psychiatrist to relocate under the J-1 Visa program or for any reason.
