Physician (Section Chief/Emergency Department)

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/16/2019.

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical requirements outlined below. A Section Chief physician should demonstrate the following: Outstanding professional ability in the practice of medicine or a medical specialty; Ability to guide the development and implementation of programs within their respective domain. These programs would include, but are not limited to medical practice, professional standards, personnel issues, quality and performance improvement. Preferred

Experience/Qualifications:

• Graduate of a 4-year residency training program in emergency medicine (or a 3-year program with one year of additional emergency medicine experience) and board certified/board eligible in Emergency Medicine.
• American Heart BLS/ACLS certification.
• Emergency Medicine Residency trained and Board Eligible/Board Certified in Emergency Medicine.
• A broad background in emergency medicine, skill in performing clinical and procedural care including enacting ACLS, performing moderate sedation, and radiological and EKG interpretation
• Computer literacy

Physical Requirements: The work requires walking, standing, bending and carrying of light items like papers or books or repositioning patients. The work may require some light physical effort, but no special physical demands are required to perform the work. Travel between the VAMC and University sites will be necessary.
